What has become a truly infamous stretch of the Pacific Coast Highway
has become something of a parade route for "bad boy" actors. First it
was Robert Downey, Jr. In 1996 he was taken into custody when the
police stopped the actor for speeding along the scenic highway. Upon
stopping Downey, the police found heroin, cocaine and a gun in his
car. In 2002 along came actor Nick Nolte who was stopped and
arrested. He was charged with being under the influence of the drug
GHB. And now we have Mel Gibson, the latest in the line of
celebrities to be arrested and charged. Gibson has been charged with
DUI, among other things. The highway is near a large number of
celebrity homes and is famous for its hairpin curves and blind spots.
Many people have called the Pacific Coast Highway a true accident
on the verge of happening. Even when a
person is sober, it is considered a difficult road to drive successfully , according to Arnold G. York, publisher of The Malibu
Times. In fact, drivers are directed to slow to 45 mph when motoring through Malibu. However, few people ever do -- unless there is a traffic jam. |
