| The husband of President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo passed out free dentures to Phillipine police officers with bad teeth. The effort is designed to improve the public image and confidence of the national police force. Mike Arroyo's campaign was dubbed A New Smile for the Toothless and focused on market vendors in Manila but also the police force. Police officers in Manila earn as little as $157 per month. A senior police officer who has been on the force for twenty years, Omar Taribul, said he had endured years of humiliation after losing his teeth in a gun fight with communist rebelt back in 1994. He said he can now smile because he has a brand new set of teeth. |
