| | Research that has been undertaken in regard to the appearance of humans over the past 10,000 years reveals that the human face actually is shrinking. In fact, human faces today are a whopping 30% smaller than human faces of 10,000 years ago. These researchers believe that diet is the main cause of why the human face is shrinking. These experts believe that the change over to soft, farmed food products has meant that jawbones, teeth, skulls and muscles have not had to be as strong as they were centuries ago. These experts have also concluded that the shrinking human face is the cause for the increase in dental problems including crooked teeth or overlapping teeth. These researchers have concluded that the trend has been towards rounder skulls and smaller faces and small jaws. The research was reported by Clark Spencer Larsen who is a professor of anthropology at Ohio State University. He made his conclusions after examining and making measurements of thousands of jawbones, teeth, skulls and other bones. These remains were collected from prehistoric sites from around the globe. A typical human being who lived 10,000 years ago would have been heavier overall than the typical human being today. He concluded that most men would have had a head the shape of Arnold Schwarzenegger while the woman would have had a head rather like Prince Charles’ wife Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall. On the other hand, both Tony Blair and George Bush are prime examples of the more delicate, modern headed humans. Humans are also growing less teeth in this day and age. 10,000 years ago everyone had wisdom teeth. Today, only about half the population get these teeth. In addition, the remaining teeth in a modern human being’s mouth are smaller. |
