This contest is fueled by the following news: It has been announced that SpongeBob SquarePants is going veggie. The happy go lucky cartoon hero will soon appear on packages of carrots, spinach and citrus products, appearing as early as next month. The character will appear on these packages of veggies and fruits under a licensing agreement with produce companies. Dora the Explorer as well as other Nickelodean characters will also appear on packages of vegetables and fruits in the future, according to the network. SpongeBob already pitches a significant number of food products, including everything from cereal to ice cream. Nickelodeon executives indicate that this represents the character's first foray into the wholesome fruit and vegetable marketplace. They believe this compliments the networks attempts to get children to eat better.
