- it came out fuzzier than my original... is that usual with uploading stuff. And how come I come up as "Hidden Author" - I'd like to put my name to it... (sorry for being such a new bee.)

It's a contest so all entries remain anonymous until the voting is over to ensure things are fair. The texture in your image certainly will go a little fuzzy in JPEG format which is lossy by nature. There's two things you can do. 1. Work with and upload a much larger / sharper original image .. say 900px wide. or 2. Size your down image to 500px wide and make sure it looks good at that size before uploading. Then upload the 500px version so it doesn't get resized here. This is probably your best bet for this particular entry.
