This contest is fueled by the following news: July 1st is Canada Day, the day on which Canadians celebrate the creation of the Dominion of Canada. The Dominion of Canada was created through the British North America Act of 1867. Through this Act, three British territories were united. The Provinces were Canada, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. The federation also created the additional Provinces of Ontario and Quebec. The holiday itself formally was established by law in 1879. The holiday initially was called "Dominion Day." The name was changed to Canada Day in 1982.
