| Brittany Murphy (10 November, 1977 Atlanta - 20 December 2009, Los-Angeles, USA) was a famous American actress and singer. Her most popular films were: “Girl, Interrupted”, “8 Mile”and “Sin City”. Also, the actress performed as a vocalist in the composition by the famous electronic musician Paul Oakenfold “Faster Kill Pussycat”. Murphy won the award “Young Hollywood” in the year 2002.
Biography:
Brittany Ann Bertolotti was born on November 10, 1977 to Sharon Murphy (of half Irish and half Eastern European Jewish descent) and Angelo Bertolotti (of Italian American origin) in Atlanta, Georgia and grew up in the neighborhood of New Jersey. After Brittany’s parents were divorced when she was just 2 yrs old, the future actress took the surname of her mother. At the age of 9, Brittany started doing roles in local theatre and at the age of 13, she signed her first contract with an acting agency and started working in TV advertisements. At the same age, Brittany moves along with her mother to California, where she receives her first role in the television show “Blossom”. Further, after a whole series of roles on TV, Brittany Murphy begins a very successful film career acting in independent cinema, in projects from major studios both in dramas as well as in comedies.
Tai Frasier, schoolmate and friend of the main heroine played by Alicia Silverstone in the youth comedy “Clueless” (1995), became a break-role into the big movies for Brittany Murphy. In 1998, Murphy was nominated for the “Young Artists Awards” as female lead in the television movie “David and Lisa”.
Brittany acted in several films and on television but significant roles did not come her way. Appreciable works are: her role of Daisy Randone, a patient in a mental hospital in the drama “Girl, Interrupted” (1999), where Murphy played alongside Winona Ryder and Angelina Jolie, and the role of Elisabeth Borrows, once again a patient in a mental institution in the thriller “Don’t Say a Word”, in which Michael Douglas himself was her partner.
In 2002, Murphy won the “Young Hollywood” award.
After the thriller “Don’t Say a Word”, Brittany Murphy played female lead roles in the movies “8 Mile” (2002), “Just Married” (2003) and “Uptown Girls” (2003).
Apart from her acting talent Brittany Murphy possessed beautiful voice. Still in the early nineties she performed as the soloist of her own rock group “Blessed Soul”. The compositions of this group and the voice of Brittany Murphy can be heard on the soundtracks in the films “Girl, Interrupted” (1999) and “Riding in Cars with Boys” (2001).
Four films with Brittany were slated for release in 2010, amongst which is “The Expendables”, the global action project of Sylvester Stallone. What is the destiny of these films is still unknown. Except for “The Expendables” Brittany Murphy has played leading roles in all the other films.
Personal life:
The personal life of Brittany was always linked with movies. While in school, Brittany met Jonathan Brandis, a young star of the teenage television series “SeaQuest DSV” (1993). Rumors existed that Brittany Murphy dated Eminem while shooting for the movie “8 Mile”. However, after completion of shooting for “8 Mile”, she was romantically linked with Ashton Kutcher. Both Brittany Murphy & Ashton Kutcher were spotted together everywhere and it they looked like a happy pair. Mutual friends believed that their relationship would result in marriage. But unexpectedly for many, Ashton suddenly appeared as the groom of Demi Moore. It was hard for Brittany Murphy to break-up with Ashton.
The actress married script writer Simon Monjack at a private Jewish ceremony in May 2007.
Death:
The actress died on December 20, 2009 at the age of 32 in her house in Los Angeles due to a heart attack.
The mother of the actress found Murphy unconscious in a bathroom. First-aid doctors, who came on call, ascertained cardiac arrest. All attempts to resuscitate Murphy at the scene and on the way to the hospital were unsuccessful. Brittany Murphy was taken to “Cedars-Sinai Medical Center”, where she was declared dead on arrival due to cardiac arrest.
Having learnt about the death of Brittany, Ashton Kutcher wrote in his blog: “Today the world has lost a ray of sunlight. My deepest condolences to the family of Brittany, her husband and her amazing mother Sharon... See you on the other side, kid”. “People” Magazine quotes the words of actress Jessica Simpson: “Brittany Murphy was like a sunray and her smile was simply deadly”.
Brittany Murphy was buried in Hollywood Hills on December 24, 2009.
