Theatrical Mask
From ancient times the mask is an important attribute of theatrical actions.
Generally it is an emblematic picture of theatrical architecture as a whole. The theatrical mask has historically gone out of the ceremonial masks. It traditionally exists as in the form of a molding on the face (Theater of ancient Greece, Buddhists mystery theater, comedy art and so on), and in the form of a Grim mask (Japanese theater Hoo and Kabuki)
With the help of masks in modern theater the emotions of a moving body of an actor (according to statistic masks, hiding the face) are emphasized, and helps to relieve all possible prohibitions (including from social and sexual) and attains stage grotesque. In the modern theater practice it is frequently used to accept publicly “putting” and “taking out” of masks, making the situation itself a “transformation”, “change”, “reincarnation” of the actors visible for the audience. In such a way, an exemption is achieved to the performer from the character, the existing border between “Games” and “Life” is underlined.
The mask is for the dramatic means of the representation of a man. The dramaturgy type of masks – a schematic un- ascertained picture of man, related with the search of the general universal human being qualities (thematic, gender’s, socials and so on). Close to theatrical specialization, opposite to the dramatic character. The type of mask in the drama on account of external events will not undergo internal changes; will not have development, saving from the beginning to the end the one and the same features. The strictly restricted behavior for the type-masks, guessing and predicting by virtue of this its actions enables the “masque” even in some special conditions dealt without written dramaturgy, limiting only the script-piece, in which the subject is fixed, the sequence of dramatic situations, but not prescribed in detail the monologue and dialog of the personage. “Theater masks” is based on the extempore (as, for example, in the theater practice of comedy dell’ arte). The actor of “theater masks”, as per rule, is specialized for performing only one role in a particular type of mask.
