For obtaining a permission to install advertisement boards, the operator from an outdoor advertising agency contacts the concerned authorities for permission and has to sign a series of agreements.
Billboard Classification:
Boards can be classified according to various features: number of sides, carrying helpful information (one, two, 3-sided and 4-sided is very rare), mutual positioning of these sides (flat, V-shaped, triangular), size of the advertising field (usually 6×3 m big formats and up to 18.1×6.1 are used in the USA), according to design (collapsible, so-called “Transformers” and non-separable).
Also, a board usually has two sides:
* A – Along the driving direction;
* B – Against driving direction
As a rule, the advertiser has to pay more for installing the advertisement board on side “A”;
The billboard is an advertisement board with a standard size of 6x3m. As a rule, such boards are placed on the ground on special supports, though basically they can be fixed to a wall or fence.
Billboards are used for doing local advertising campaigns. Usually, billboards are bought in huge quantities – several tens and even hundreds for a fixed time period, more often for one month.
Various technical variants of the 6x3 boards exist: different supports, different installation system of images, printed on banners. Some contractors make designs in special color frames. Billboards with two surfaces on a single support also exist.
Big board billboard is an advertisement board. The first big board appeared in the USA in 1895. Big companies and firms started renting space on wooden boards for advertisements or “Bills”, giving rise to the term “Billboard”. Only after twenty years did companies appear with deals for placement on “big boards” and they leased them to firms wishing to advertise their products.
