This contest is fueled by the following news:
The Beatles is a British rock group from Liverpool: John Lennon (rhythm guitar, piano, mouth organ, and vocals), Paul McCartney (bass guitar, piano, and vocals), George Harrison (solo guitar, vocals) and Ringo Starr (percussion, vocals). At various times, the following were also members of the group: Pete Best (drummer, vocals) Stuart Sutcliffe (bass guitar, vocals) and Jimmy Nicol (Drummer). The group made a huge contribution towards the development of rock music. The ensemble not only changed it but also attained unprecedented popularity owing to which “The Beatles” has become one of the brightest phenomena of world culture in the 20th century, having sold more than 1 billion discs worldwide. The appearance, behavior and belief of musicians have made them style trendsetters, together with huge popularity, has led to the considerable influence of the group on cultural and social revolutions of the 1960s. After the breaking up of the group, which happened in 1970, each member of the group started a solo career. The group is considered to be the greatest in the history of rock'n'roll. On February 11, 1963, “The Beatles” had recorded the all the material for their debut album “Please Please Me” in only 12 hours. After three months of the release of the single with same name (on March 22), “The Beatles” at last released their first album, which topped the national pop-chart on April 12 and remained at the top for an entire 6 months. The album contained a mixture of their own songs under the authorship of Lennon - McCartney and cover versions of their favorite songs-smash hits, belonging to performers who were very famous at that time. October 13, 1963 is considered to be the birthday of “Beatlemania” - the phenomenon of deafening popularity, which was not repeated by any group around the globe. “The Beatles” then performed in the London Hall “Palladium”, from where their concert was broadcast in the program “Sunday Night At The London Palladium” all over the country. The program was viewed by 15 million viewers but thousands of young admirers and fans preferred to skip the telecast and packed the street adjoining the concert hall building, in a hope of seeing the musicians not on screen but in real life. After the concert, the quartet had to work their way to their car with the help of the police. On November 4, “The Beatles” had become the highlight of the program of the Royal variety show at the Prince of Wales Theatre. The Queen-Mother, Princess Margaret and Lord Snowdon were present at the concert and the Queen did not hide her admiration for the songs “Till There Was You” from the popular musical “The Music Man” performed by “The Beatles” group. The second album “With The Beatles” was released on November 22. Out of fourteen songs recorded, eight songs were the own creations of the musicians including the song by George Harrison “Don’t Bother Me”, which was for the first time included in an official album of the group. The album achieved a world record for quantity of pre-sale applications – 300 000 and by 1965, over one million copies of the album were sold. Achievements of “The Beatles”: * The composition “A Day In The Life” of “The Beatles” is recognized as the all-time-best British song. This decision of the advisory council from the magazine Q arrived just in time - when two of “The Beatles” tracks from the collection “HELP: A Day In The Life” has just started conquering the charts; * In 2004, the magazine “Rolling Stone” published the 500 best songs of all time and. 23 songs from the “The Beatles” made their way into the list – more by any group; * The largest American Cable Music Channel VH-1 published the rankings of the 100 best albums in the history of “Rock'n'Roll”. The album “Revolver” (1966) from the legendary group “The Beatles” occupied first place, states the newspaper “The Washington Post”. The list of the 100 best songs was prepared on the basis of a poll survey conducted amongst 500 journalists, employees of the music industry and performers. Four more albums by the Liverpool quartet: “Rubber Soul” (1965), “Abbey Road” (1969), “Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band” (1967) and “The Beatles” (also popular as the “White Album”, 1968) also made their way into the list occupying 6th, 8th, 10th and 11th places respectively; * Yesterday (1965) - According to the Guinness Book of Records, more cover versions were made of this song than on any other song ever written and sound recording corporation EMI asserts that the song was performed over 7 million times just in the 20th century; * “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band” was the eighth album of the British rock group “The Beatles”. Many critics put the album “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band” among the most influential rock albums of all times. In particular, it has been called the best album of all time according to “Rolling Stone” magazine in 2003; * In 1964, three songs of “The Beatles” reached the first ten slots of the American pop-chart; * Ed Sullivan's television show with “The Beatles” (1964) was viewed by an audience of 73,000,000.
