| | Interesting egg facts:
Chicken eggs are an irreplaceable ingredient of food for the majority of people on our planet. Eggs of the blackbird, fulmar, cormorant, guillemot, seagull, penguin, squatarole, puffin, pen, ouzel and other birds are also used in some countries. In some parts of the world, any nest, which is accessible, is a potential source of food. Several stories exist about how tasty the eggs of wild birds are. But in countries which do not suffer from food scarcity it is banned to collect the eggs of wild birds with several exceptions.
Also, only bird eggs are eaten. Eggs of turtles are considered as a delicacy on many islands in the Pacific Ocean and in the warm countries of the Atlantic Ocean. Turtle eggs are not only considered an aphrodisiac but also highly appreciated in eastern kitchens. Round, white, with soft shells, similar to a table tennis ball, the turtle eggs are tasty if baked over fire with bamboo leaves. Occasionally, local residents afford this treat, though they never take more than a few eggs from the nest in a single go. Poachers, to be true, are not so decent and specially trace when the turtle lays up to 200 eggs in the sand, so as to take away all of them. Turtles are also protected by international laws against poaching.
Fish eggs are also highly regarded. Sturgeon eggs or black caviar are very well-known and expensive. These small brilliant eggs are wonderful but expensive. Red salmon eggs and red caviar are less expensive but are hugely popular thanks to their attractive color. |
