Bad Luck
Contest Directions:  Today is Friday the 13th, - the day associated with the numerous superstitions of bad luck. Tell me if this is weird - this Friday the 13th comes just six days after the luckiest day of the century. In the 1800's the fear of bad luck on "Black Friday" was so strong that a British insurance company Lloyds of London refused to insure any ship leaving a port on a Friday the 13th.
Show how bad luck could change the lives of celebrities and politicians, or any people, as well as companies, and countries. Consider this contest a reverse of good luck contest we had last week. Tags: bad luck

This contest is fueled by the following news:
Bad luck is a situation when it is impossible to accomplish something planned. Misfortune can happen in human dealings and undertakings. Its necessary conditions – Anticipation of some result and absence of expected result at the end. This means, that misfortune is applicable only to conditions, according to which something can be planned and wait for the result. For example, expected to be in Heaven and somehow could not get there – Bad luck! Misfortune acquires universal meaning right from the very beginning of Modern times, when purposefulness, rationality, constructability and pragmatism become mandatory positive qualities of lack of time affairs. This activity scoring system should be applied neither to the Medieval Age, nor to Renaissance, when main inclinations to the God or cultivation have been non-comparable to particulars of individual failures and did not intend any foreseeable result. Rather, on the contrary, they already originated from happy confirmation about luck of human fate speed, since probability to attain perfection and greatness exists initially in the human being. Modern European perception and mode of existence of people, in principal, are built on potential availability of falsification of individual opinions, hypothesis or actions, which only then become substantial, i.e. contain knowledge and self-affirmation of people, delimited from possible non realities. Meanwhile, bad luck does not have boundaries, according to which, it is would have been possible to distinguish and isolate it. Bad and good luck run through all and even through each other. This dualism gives inherent potentiality to the Western world and defines the progress as movement in field of force from bad luck to good luck. Invariably, bad luck remains to be intimate, interior side of our lives not only because, we are ashamed of it, but also because bad luck itself is not worth enough to be discussed, external world, there and then, gives it a snap and drives it back since it is bad luck. If all our activities are verified by some measuring tool: Reason, common sense, public opinion, inter-subjectivity and judging capabilities, then luck belongs to contact surface with the measuring tool. Luck can withstand the contact and shall remain only on the surface. Consequently, luck is exterior and unlike bad, which even when recruited for verifying procedure, considers it invalid and sent back home out of the mind. However, what ever knowledge methods existed, what ever be importance given to outer activities and training techniques and what ever be the external carriers such as books, computers, the society did not store and further handed-over the information and at the end, person seeks knowledge, experience, spirit, beauty. In what ever way the impact of world reaches the concrete individual as a carrier of human aim, external world should touch the intimate depth of person so as to interact with the soul and this contact can take place in spite of knowledge and relationship of western type and appears to be not recognized by them. And particularly, bad luck is positioned and kept at the depth of intimacy by the person himself and this indicates that bad luck is closely related to our fate. Friday the 13th is considered, in many cultures, a day of bad luck, especially in English, German, Polish and Portuguese speaking cultures. Similar superstition exists in several other traditions. No such historical date exists, which can be officially identified as an origin of superstition. Long before 20th century, evidences are available for over a century that number 13 was considered unlucky and Friday was considered an unlucky day. However, there was no link between these two superstitions. In general, first recorded mention of "Friday the thirteenth" belongs to the beginning of 1900. Still, many popular stories exist about the origin of concept: - Friday October, 13th in the year 1066 was the last day of rule of Saxon King Harold II. On this day, William suggested Harold to leave the throne for him but Harold rejected the offer. Battle of Hastings took place on the next day (Saturday 14th October, 1066). Harold was killed in the battle and William took over the reins of England. - Many modern histories (including Da Vinci's Code) confirm that, King Philip IV had ordered arrest and execution of majority of Knights Templars. Their arrest was organized simultaneously, on Friday the 13th of October 1307. And quasi, this event might have given birth to legend about unlucky Friday the 13-th.
