| | The Australian government is encouraging people in that country to have babies. The government is telling its citizens that having babies is a patriotic duty. It now appears that citizens are answering the call. During the most recent six month period, ending in September, a total of 133,400 babies were born in the country, the most in any six month period in over 14 years. The government, in facing the falling birth rate in the country, had offered to give mothers $2,319 for each baby born after July 1 of last year. Australian national Treasurer, in announcing the payment, told people in the country to go home and do their patriotic duty.
