| Researchers who are involved in exploring the remains of what is considered an ancient crater in Australia have said that they have identified what is described as being fresh evidence that a gigantic meteorite slammed into Earth some 250 million years ago. The effect of the collision was to kill almost everything alive on the planet at the time -- a period known as "The Great Dying." If the evidence the researchers believe that have found withstands scrutiny, the impact of the meteorite will have caused more damage than previously thought. The collision would be far more devastating than the crash from a space object that is believed to have killed off dinosaurs and other life forms some 65 million years ago. |
