The drop shadow in the pi cutout area makes the red skin of the apple appear to be floating above the interior flesh. Try replacing this with an outer bevel matched to the colour of the flesh interior. It will create the added depth to the cutout that you are after as wll as attach all of the elements of the apple together.

Thanks for the tip but I am confused please help me out. If the apple is cut out the outer layer should be raised with the PI creating a hole in the apple guess I am confused if it should be an iny or an outy

You are correct in saying that the outer layer should be raised but the current drop shadow makes it appear as though there is nothing directly underneath the red skin. The red skin should be connected to the flesh part of the apple. An outer bevel would produce a sloped side going down into the apple around the perimeter of the pi cut out.
