This contest is fueled by the following news: Next month, the U.S. government will being testing new anti missile equipment on three airliners. In the end, this will represent the first step towards what likely will be the most expensive security upgrade ever ordered for the aviation system in the United States. Both Northrop Grumman and BAE Systems will install the systems in out of service aircraft. The equipment will include laser defense systems that are designed to misdirect shoulder-fired missiles according John Kubricky, director of the Department of Homeland Security's systems engineering and development office. Results of the test will be sent to Congress early next year.
