U.S. Homeland Security Secretary has announced that the United States will work to ensure that other nations enforce a new U.S. requirement of placing law enforcement officers who are armed on some flights in order to prevent a highjacking. Ridge made this announcement in advance of the New Year's holiday and as terror threats kept the U.S. on high alert.
