World’s first airline:
LZ 10, Dirigible airline DELAGDELAG, (German Airship Transport Corporation) was the world’s first airline and was founded on November 16, 1909with government assistance. It used dirigibles of Zeppelin Corporation. Headquarters of the corporation was opened in Frankfurt.
National airlines:
Till recent times, many – often unprofitable – airlines were owned by government & operated or under subvention by government. All such airlines were called through an English term “Flag Carrier” as the carriers used “Flag” of the country. Due to the in-pour of social funds, national airlines do not require market needs; All the losses are borne by the government. This was the case in Germany (Before privatization) with Lufthansa, in France Air France, Alitalia in Italy, Vietnam Airlines in Vietnam, Thai Airways in Thailand.
Liberalization and privatization:
During liberalization and deregulation, all more traditional national airlines develop in the lines of private airlines, which should be put to test in free market. |
