| In a cost cutting move, Sony has discontinued producton of its line of robotic Aibo dogs along with its more expensive humanoid robot called Qrio -- the humanoid never having been sold as a product to consumers. According to Sony, more than 150,000 Aibo robotic dogs have been sold to date. The dogs went on the market in 1999. Sony did indicate that it will provide customer support for owners of Aibo robotic dogs for seven years. (A spokesperson for the company noted that is 49 years in dog years -- enough to get the dogs to middle age.) |
