| This contest is fueled by the following news: |
| In life, everyone said that she was a true gem. In reality, now all it takes is eight ounces of cremated remains is all that it takes to turn a loved one into a diamond. In point of fact, there is more than enough in a human's ashes to make approximately 20 gemstones. After that, there will be several pounds of ash left to display over the mantelpiece. Thus far, no one has actually ordered more than 11 diamonds, according to Dean VandenBiesen, vice president of operations for LifeGem. LifeGem uses super heated ovens to transform ashes into graphite and then presses the graphite into blue and yellow diamonds. The resulting stones retail anywhere between $2,700 to $20,000. VandenBiesen does admit that the process is not for everyone. But, he does maintain that it is a nice way to immortalize a loved one in jewelry. |
