| It is reported by medical experts that pipe smokers face a five times higher risk of lung cancer and an almost four times higher risk of throat cancer than people who use no tobacco products at all. The U.S. Cancer Society released this report. The report is included in Wednesday's edition of the Journal of the National Cancer Institute. More than 15,000 male pipe smokers were part of the study. Pipe smokers run a higher risk of many types of cancer, including colon, pancreas, esophagus, and larynx. These men also run a 30% higher risk of heart disease and a 27% higher risk of stroke. These men also face nearly triple the risk of being diagnosed with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease compared to people who do not use tobacco products. |
