This contest is fueled by the following news:
When a census of life in the ocean is undertaken, it reveals a true treasure of living jewels. These range from a microbe as big as a fingernail to a furry crab. There is even a giant lobster. In the process of examining life in the ocean, scientists have documented the existence of dozens of new species of fish, plankton, crustaceans and other organisms. This all occured during this year's global survey of marine life. The scientists also discovered deep sea shrimps that can live in temperature upwards to 80 centigrade -- surprisingly approaching the boiling level of water. These heat loving shrimps were found near a thermal vent nearly two miles below the surface of the sea. In addition, scientists discovered what they are calling a living Jurassic shrimp that was thought to have become extinct a whopping 50 million years ago. Technically called Neoglyphea neocaledonica, the ancient shrimp was discovered to be living and very well on an underwater peak in the Coral Sea off north-east Australia.
