It is very nice, I do feel toning down the stark white background would be an improvement. It would make the girl and phone stand out more.

I actually saw this source pic before, not much was changed. The things that were changed are done fairly well though. Three critiques: If this were a 1940's phone, why is there a slot for a quarter.; why is it a touch-tone (push button) rather than a rotary dialing.; and why is there a computer keyboard on it back when they were still using typewriters.

The image of the woman was not altered. It was made (most probably for Playboy, and perhaps in the 40's, considering how it was created) by Alberto Vargas. The image was merely used to add a hint of "sexiness" and some human element to how I assume a Nokia "ad" would've appeared, if one came out in the 40's. As for the keyboard, it was used to imply that this may have been among the first uses of the prototype keyboard, which didn't quite turn out well since the buttons were big and plenty instead of the typical convenient 19-20ish buttons that we see on cellphones nowadays. Annnnnnnnnd since I had to do a speech on why this and that are this and that, that simply means that I didn't put it all together well, or I added the wrong elements, hence failing to convey my message clearly =D
