After the arrest of a well-known gangster Ben Wade, his gang continues intimidating locals. Civil war veteran and owner of a small rancho Dan Evans agrees to take secretly to the nearest city where there is a railway station, so that Wade can be sent to Fort Yuma by train. As soon as they put up in a hotel, the secret opens and the chase after both of them is on.
